I didn’t grow up in Texas so before coming to college, I had no idea what Texas A&M was like. I had never been on campus visits before and I didn’t know people who went here. So the moment I landed in College Station, surprises started unraveling.

1. The Aggie spirit is real!

Whether you’re getting your Aggie Ring or meeting Rev for the first time, you’re probably equally brimming with the Aggie spirit. Nothing compares to the rush of this spirit than when you’re at Midnight Yell or cheering for the Aggies on Kyle Field. This is not something that we can start feeling all of a sudden. The New Student Conference just plants this seed, and all of the wonderful traditions at Texas A&M  keep nurturing it.

2. Aggies are the best!

Coming to college knowing no one and having no friends/siblings/acquaintances in this alien land, I can’t explain in words how amazing an experience it has been to meet Aggies and befriend them. The magic of this place is truly captured in its people. They’re wonderful human beings, always willing to help you out and make sure you have the best experience possible. No Aggie is ever left behind.

3. Your best friend will be Google Maps!

Texas A&M’s campus, huge as it is, is a really hard place to navigate, especially if you don’t know where different buildings are. So as a freshman, you’re probably going to spend most of your walking time staring at your screen. Trust me, it will get better with time — though if you’re like me, you’re still going to end up needing Google Maps after a year at Texas A&M.

4. There are a million student organizations!

As a freshman, student organizations really helped me make friends and get to know like-minded people. Whatever it is that you like, Texas A&M probably already has a club for it. You can become a part of it from Day One and find your home away from home in Aggieland. From making cupcakes together to making robots to participating in a global competition, you name it and Texas A&M will have an org for it.

5. A&M is a sea of opportunities!

ReveilleThere are so many opportunities for growth and development, and sometimes it can be overwhelming. The approach that I have found useful is to narrow down your engagements. Instead of getting lost in this sea of opportunities, your best bet would be to figure out where your home island is. Prioritize your commitments and you’ll excel! And don’t forget that Texas A&M will have a plethora of opportunities at your disposal to figure out your passion.
