Struggling to find your path?
If you ever need someone to talk to, the College of Engineering provides its students with mental health and wellness resources in the Zachry Engineering Education Complex.
Going into college, I felt like my back was against the wall and I had a limited number of opportunities given to me. I felt I needed to be a perfect student or get straight A’s in order to get the opportunities I needed to enhance my career.
But this isn’t always the case.
At Texas A&M University, there is almost always an alternative, a plan B or other opportunity waiting on the other side of the door.
For instance, being a petroleum engineer, I wanted to get into the Master of Finance program but just couldn’t get the GRE score I needed to submit my application. I was crushed at first but then realized the Petroleum Ventures Program offered very similar, if not better, opportunities for my career.
The exciting reality is this is not the only example of an alternative. There are so many pathways for research, internships, studies abroad and professional certificates out there, such as the Grand Challenge Program, the Zachary Leadership Program and studying at the campus in Qatar, amongst others.
The beauty of Texas A&M is that you are given opportunities to explore many different pathways that all lead to a unique educational experience no matter your interest. You can do so much in so many places and with so many people just by sending out an email or shaking a hand.

I encourage all Aggies who didn’t get what they longed for the first time to look between the lines and find out what other opportunities are available because you never know where such journeys will take you.
