Interested in applying to EH EDGE?
This four-year program is designed for students to begin their first year of study in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University.
When you’re a freshman, there are so many organizations out there that it can get overwhelming. I was looking for something new, exciting, and educational. Something that would help me stand out – that’s when I found EH EDGE. I’ve just completed my first semester as a member of EH EDGE and I’m so glad I took the leap to apply and prepare myself for a global career as an engineer.
1. Be a part of something new
EH EDGE is a brand-new program that is accepting applicants for its second cohort. It stands for Engineering Honors: Enhancing the Development of Global Engineers. For me, joining meant setting a precedent that could impact decades of engineering honors students here at Texas A&M – that’s not a chance you get every day. Being a part of something this early means that future members look at my success to see if this organization truly develops its members. And trust me, after a semester of this course, I can tell it will have a lifelong impact.
2. Surround yourself with all disciplines
As a freshman in general engineering, you get the chance to interact with all different types of prospective majors. However, once you get into your major, you stop seeing such a large variety of students in your classes. One of the perks of this program is being able to keep interacting and learning from other majors even after most of your classes turn to major-specific engineering classes. In my cohort, there’s a very healthy mix of engineering majors and it’s inspiring to see each other’s perspectives about different issues.
3. Develop Globally!
As the name suggests, this program aims to start developing the global competency of engineers from day 1 (or semester two but who’s counting). If you’ve ever thought about doing any sort of study abroad but can’t seem to fit it into your undergraduate schedule, EH EDGE is the perfect program for you. This is the exact situation I’m in, but EH EDGE is offering me the opportunity to go abroad during my junior year for about a week at no cost to me. I can’t wait to experience teamwork with people from entirely different cultures – it will be incredible for developing my global competence.
4. Preparing to apply
To apply, you must be a first-year general engineering student in Engineering Honors. The application process consists of a few short answer questions, uploading a resume and teacher recommendation, and being your genuine self! Be sure to go to one of the EH EDGE informationals, as it’s mandatory to apply.
The first semester of freshman year isn’t easy, but one of the most important things that I tell myself is that there’s never any harm in trying. The chance to join EH EDGE only comes once, so if you think that you might be even a little interested, I highly recommend going to an informational and getting a first hand account from one of us in the first cohort! Good luck applying, and I can’t wait to see y’all at a meeting next semester.
